Habit #4 - Think Win-Win

Thinking Win-Win
, or always thinking about others as well as yourself, is one of the great mental habits we can teach our kids. When we face challenges, we have choices - we can vow to win at all costs and/or seek revenge for perceived slights (Lose-Lose), pout and say, "That's not fair!" (Lose-Win), argue (Win-Lose), or get creative and come up with a solution that works for everyone (Win-Win).

Some baby steps:

* Try to go for one day without sulking, pouting or feeling sorry for yourself.

* The next time you are fighting over who should get the best toy, think, "How can I make you happy, too?"

* If you play sports, demonstrate sportsmanship - sincerely compliment someone from the opposing team.

* Without caring if you win or lose, play a game just for the fun of it.

* If someone owes you money or help, say so in a kind way. You don't need to be a doormat - just ask nicely for what you want.

* Do you have an important test coming up soon? If so, form a study group and share your best ideas with one another. You'll all do better.

* The next time someone close to you succeeds, be genuinely happy for them instead of feeling threatened.

*Think of a person you feel is a model of Win-Win. What is it about this person you admire?
